Marriage Records of the City of Fredericksburg, and of Orang
This is an excellent book for anyone researching their ancestors in these counties of Virginia. There are two indexes in this book, one by grooms and the other by bride. This makes it very easy for you to find your male and female ancestors. It also in many instances gives parents of the bride, ages of persons, and whether a person was a widower.

Northern Ireland the Orange State
Published in Unknown Binding by Pluto Press ()
Author: Michael Farrell
Average review score:

Must-Read on Northern Ireland's History
Farrell's "Northern Ireland: The Orange State" is tough to find but well worth the effort for those seriously interested in the history and politics of Northern Ireland. Written in 1976 by a committed Irish republican and socialist, this not the book for someone with no prior background in Northern Irish history. Yet the same characteristics that make it unsuitable for newcomers to the topic -- its age and biased viewpoint -- make it valuable for students of Northern Ireland.

Farrell's history is not simply a curiosity, however. His treatment of Northern Ireland's early history (1920s through 1950s) is far more in-depth than more recent texts, which tend to gloss over the state's formation and pick up the story with the beginning of the present "Troubles" in the late 1960s. Additionally, Farrell is a good history writer and his narrative style is often more engaging than more recent, balanced accounts. Those who read extensively on Northern Ireland and wish to add a unique volume to their shelves would do well to track down a copy of this book.

classic picture book
My son made us read this book to him probably 500 times, and, to the book's credit, I still really like it! One sentence per page. Great pictures. Funny. Great for any child old enough to follow simple sentences like "One was sent to a sick friend.", probably age three and up.

Informative little book
Very informative piece on this early architectural pioneer. The author has done an excellent and thorough job of documenting Eley's history. I especially liked the photos in the book of some of Mr. Eley's projects.

Orange Juice
"Orange Juice" is part of a series of Science Emergent Readers. There are 18 words in the story. I teach students with learning impairments and I use these books with readers at a beginning to mid first grade level. The students have a high interest in these books and writing lessons easily follow.

Children's story of Dutch resistance to Nazi invasion
I haven't seen this book in over 30 years but it made a lasting impression on me. I think it made me realize that even in outward submission to powers one can still keep the human heart and spirit free.

Orange Roofs, Golden Arches: An Architecture of American Chain Restaurants
Published in Hardcover by Knopf (June, 1986)
Author: Philip Langdon
Average review score:

Interesting look at architecture
Landgon's book is thoughtful, well-researched, and generally quite interesting. Though the topic is somewhat obscure, it does seem that chain restaurants manage to take on the trappings of all the trends in vernacular architecture (often in exaggerated form). The focus on restaurants makes for a good lens through which to see all these changes.

Langdon takes us back to the 1880s and the restaurants that served weary railroad travelers, through the colonial and art deco/moderne styles of the '20s and '30s, the bold modernism of the '50, to the environmental movement of the '70s and '80s, when every little Burger King suddenly acquired wooden shingles and a (pseudo-)mansard roof.

It's quite an interesting journey, and a good read for those who are interested.
